Zevenheuvelenloop

Zevenheuvelenloop Zevenheuvelenloop Here a small story about the Zevenheuvelenloop which I have run on November 11, 2001. It went very well this time. The best time (1:16:30) that I had for this run was in 1993. This time it was 1:19:29. When you consider increase to account for because of my age increase it amounts to an almost same achievement and that while I did not any extensive training. The weather was nice, with a temperature of about 10 degrees.
The photos on the left come from the internet. They were for free and that is why they have a watermark. But I considered the quality good enough to place them here on my homepage.
Above there is a picture with the height info. There are only a few steep slopes and further more it is so that the last 2 1/2 kilometers are only down. The last 5 km I have run the fastest (25:16). The first 5 in 26:52 and the second in 27:21. This time there were almost 15000 runners.

Dam tot Dam loop

Dam tot Dam loop
The Dam tot Dam run is known for the lot of people that come. Last year and this year (1997 and 1998) there were about 22,000 runners and it all goes through small streets. The years before everybody started at the same time and because of the crowd it is not possible to make a good time.
It was for the first time in 1997 that there was started in groups with a spacing of 15 min. We (my college and I) thought that without preregistration we could choose a group, but this was not true and we were classified in the last group. This had the advantage that it was not so crowded anymore.
There was a lot of public along the side and that makes this run special.

City Pier City loop

City Pier City run
This was the CPC in The Hague on april 26, 1995. This year I was also training for the marathon, but because of an injury, a week after this CPC I did not join that run. But the training caused that I was able to make a good time that I did not beat yet.
This was the first time that the run first went to Scheveningen and than via Wassenaar and back to the centre of The Hague. Before it was in the opposite direction. In 1996 the run was from Scheveningen to Kijkduin and back. Traditionally the run is like the name, City Pier City, already says between the centre of The Hague and Scheveningen and everybody thought that that had to be so again what also happened. In 1998 the run will be not on sunday but on saturday (28 march).

The times:

10km
49:45;
15 km
1:15:25
20 km
1:40:46
Finish
1:45:55

Rotterdam Marathon

Start Rotterdam Marathon
Above the start of the Marathon of Rotterdam on april 28, 1997. The white arrow points to me.
I have chosen this run for a full marathon because of the flat course and few turns in the road. Running along the roads it was very noticeble that in Rotterdam they do everything to make the course as good as possible. Holes were filled up, where the road was unequal it was flattened and there were trucks along the road against the wind.
3 1/2 hours Rotterdam Marathon At the left also a photo of the Rotterdam Marathon. I am running here for three and a half hours, so somewhere between 35 and 40 km. Until 35 km everything went very well and I thought that I would make it within 4 hours. But unfortunately I was struck by tireness. Also I had cramp in my leg for which I stopped about 5 minutes.
